You’ve finally crossed the first big hurdle, Getting admission! For some of you, it came with shouts, tears of joy, resitting exams multiple times, late-night cramming, and burning the midnight candle. For others, it came with a little shock “Wait…this wasn’t the course I applied for.” Either way, one fact is undeniable: you are officially a world-class LASU student. And trust me, that is a huge milestone. Take a moment to celebrate yourself because this is no small feat. Admission to LASU is a ticket to a whole new world, a new chapter where challenges, growth, and memories await.
The Excitement and the Reality
Getting admission feels like stepping into the first phase of your dream. You imagine smooth lectures, endless opportunities, and friends you’ll make along the way. You see yourself attending events, joining associations, and maybe even starting a side hustle or two. But here’s the reality check: dreams and reality often come with a bit of friction.
Some lecturers may never know your name. Others may have teaching styles that feel like you’re the problem for not understanding anything. Ah, registration. From arranging documents to navigating online portals, you’ll often feel like LASU is personally trying to break you. But stay calm — it’s a rite of passage. Pro tip: always carry extra copies of your documents. Trust me, it saves time, spares headaches, and will come in handy for future purposes.
Lectures and Lecturers
Lecturers here come in all shapes and temperaments. Some are patient, interactive, and genuinely make learning enjoyable. Others… it depends. You’ll have mornings when you oversleep and miss class, only to realize you missed a life-changing lesson. Other times, you’ll sit through a lecture wondering if you understand anything. It happens to everyone. The trick is to adapt — learn the teaching styles, identify each lecturers’ expectations, and find your best method to absorb knowledge.
Opportunities
Some of the most successful students didn’t just study for long hours; they explored side gigs, attended workshops and conferences, joined associations like LASU DEBATE SOCIETY, LASU CONSCIENCE, and LASULIFE — learning, growing and building networks that served them long after graduation. Learn to spot opportunities, take bold steps, and don’t shy away from experimenting. Whether it’s volunteering, starting a small business,or an internship, these experiences will shape your story.
Academics
While life outside class is thrilling, academics remain your foundation. Attend classes regularly — Exams will humble you if you underestimate them. Surround yourself with friends who motivate you, join study groups, attend tutorials, ask senior students for guidance, and never ignore past questions. Stay curious. explore your courses beyond the syllabus. If you’re aiming for an impressive CGPA, guard your focus fiercely. Commit your goals to God, work hard, and never let distractions derail your purpose.
Whether LASU was your dream school or life happened to bring you here, this place has a way of shaping people. The stress, the laughter, the friendships, the growth — all will blend into a story you’ll someday tell with pride. There will be moments of doubt, moments of joy, and moments where you’ll surprise yourself with resilience you didn’t know you had.
