5 weeks have passed since we resumed. You have spent the last 5 weeks spraying cool cash on yourself. You have tried eating at all the best food spots in LASU, and bought almost everything your heart desires. Now, the inevitable sapa is here! You have textbooks to buy, and projects to complete, you still have to pay money for some course projects and you don't want to go back to the trenches. Now the question is, how can you survive sapa as a LASUite?
This newsletter contains three tips for surviving sapa in LASU.
The first tip is to SAVE YOUR WAY OUT OF SAPA.
I know this sounds cliche but it cannot be overemphasized. Saving "saves" you from unexpected costs or emergencies. Nothing is more disappointing than being in dire need and not being able to sort it out. Normalize saving a percentage of every naira entering your account.
BUDGET YOUR WAY OUT OF SAPA
Always have a budget and stop buying on impulse! Buying on impulse simply means spending money on things you didn't plan to buy. Do away with "long throat". Let's imagine you have just 2k and you plan on spending 500 naira on Iya Khalid's food then you get there excited waiting to consume the delicious meal. She serves you and then you think to yourself, "it won't hurt if I just enjoy myself, let me just buy 1 more fish and a chilled bottle of Pepsi". In no time your 2k will be gone and you will be back in the trenches. This is what happens when you buy on impulse. Have a budget, stick to it, and separate your needs from your wants and you might be miles away from the trenches.
The third tip is to EARN YOUR WAY OUT OF SAPA.
Start a side hustle. This does not necessarily mean you should start selling stuff to your coursemate. You can earn from tutorials, writing assignments for your course mates or just learn a new skill and earn from it. There are tons of side hustles out there and YouTube is a great way to learn.
Additional tip 💡
Keep track of your expenses. Write down what you use every naira for and this way you can cut unnecessary spending. Have a sapa free semester and may you never go back to the trenches!
