The judgement season for Lasuites is finally here. The season when shege is dished out without mercy and breakfast is served without water. The LIDC season!
Results have started dropping on the LIDC portal and students are receiving it with mixed reactions. While the scholars are happy about their brilliant result, others are blaming LIDC for their "not-so-good result".
If LIDC has been showing you shege and you want to break out from it, here are 5 steps that can help you become a scholar. These five steps also apply to scholars.
The first step is to have a SCHOLAR MINDSET.
Get your mind going in the right direction and you'll get your life going in the right direction. If you don't believe you can be a scholar, then you won't be a scholar! Sound harsh right, but it's just the truth. Believe in yourself and your capabilities. Who knows, you might just be the next best student in your department. A 1st class is not a do or die thing but a fair result will help when you graduate
The second step is to SET AN ACADEMIC GOAL.
I know it sounds cliche, and I know you've heard it a million times but this step cannot be overemphasized. Setting an academic goal is beyond writing "I want to have a CGPA of 5.0" and dropping the notebook. Your academic goals have to be SMART. SMART is an acronym for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time-bound. I know this sounds "bookish" and too serious but it's not that deep. SMART academic goals ensure that objectives are clearly defined and attainable within a certain time. However, no matter how SMART your academic goals are, if you don't work towards them, it is as good as dead. To achieve your goals, you must actively work towards them and be consistent.
The third step is to UNDERSTAND YOUR LECTURER AND DANCE TO HIS TUNES.
Have you ever been in a situation where you prepare for theory questions like your life depends on it only for the lecturer to set German questions in the exam or you cram your note from beginning to end only for questions to come out from the textbook or pdf materials? It hurts right? These scenarios happen because you don't understand your lecturer. Getting to know your lecturer can be quite easy. You can know your lecturer by judging from previous experiences or by paying rapt attention in class. You can also ask the senior students in your department. They have been there before and they can put you through.
Now let's go to the fourth step; FIND OUT WHAT WORKS FOR YOU!
This is where you have to break the habit of "copy copy". Your friend can learn what the lecturer taught in 10 weeks, in just one week. It doesn't mean you can do it too.
While some students learn fast, others learn at a slow pace. Know your reading and learning pattern and master it.
Finally, the fifth step: TAKE YOUR ASSIGNMENTS, TESTS, and ATTENDANCE SERIOUSLY.
This cannot be overemphasized. That small 30 marks you are underestimating can either make or mar your result. Fight for that small 30 mark because your overall result depends on it.
I am giving you this as a bonus because I can see the scholar in you. FOCUS ON YOUR FOCUS! This new semester is filled with lots of activities and you might just get carried away with it. Nobody is asking you not to have fun. Have fun, enjoy your life, and catch cruise but don't let it get in the way of your academics.
Remember, what is worth doing at all, is worth doing well.
By the way, LIDC is an acronym for Lagos State University Integrated Data Centre (did you know that before?).
Lasulife is wishing you a shege free semester.
